Top brands strike ‘Notting Hill’ film deal

Notting Hill, the film starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, has secured multimillion pound promotional tie-ins with Häagen-Dazs, Max Factor, and Domino’s Pizza. The film comes from the makers of Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The three brands have products placed in the film, and will use their marketing budgets to co-promote the movie, which is being tipped as the biggest British film ever made.

Roberts plays an American film star who falls in love with Grant, a bookseller, running a shop in London’s trendy Notting Hill.

Kieran Breen, UK marketing director for PolyGram Film International, says: “These are the first. But we’ve had other approaches.”

PolyGram will screen a cut of the film to companies next week, before inviting other offers.

Notting Hill has been written by Richard Curtis and produced by Duncan Kenworthy, who had the same roles on “Four Weddings”.
