New chief for Carphone Warehouse

Carphone Warehouse head of marketing Ruth Greenwood has left the company and been replaced by Body Shop marketer Isobel Blackie.

Greenwood has left to work on a catalogue project for contract magazine publisher Redwood. Her replacement Blackie has joined the mobile phone retailer from the marketing communications department of toiletry and cosmetics chain The Body Shop.

Following its acquisition of electrical retail chain Tandy earlier this week, Carphone Warehouse is looking at the best way of integrating the businesses. This includes an advertising review and a hike in advertising spend for Tandy. Carphone Warehouse hiked its own spend at the end of last year.

Carphone Warehouse managing director Charles Dunstone says: “We will review Tandy’s advertising, very much so. We are an enthusiastic advertiser and will look to invest more on advertising for Tandy.”

Young & Rubicam handles the Tandy account. It spent 3m on ads last year according to ACNielsen-MEAL. Advertising Brasserie created a TV campaign for Carphone Warehouse which ran over Christmas.

Dunstone says the Tandy and Carphone Warehouse marketing departments will not necessarily be integrated: “Tandy won’t become a clone of Carphone Warehouse.

We will work on repositioning.”
