90% of public bemoan high price of Dome

Ninety per cent of the population believe the 758m Millennium Dome is too expensive, and most people would prefer the money be spent on hospitals, public health and education, according to an NOP survey commissioned by Marketing Week.

Even so, more than a quarter of the adult population – some 15 million people – are likely to visit the Dome in Greenwich according to the survey. The survey of 1,003 adults shows 69 per cent “strongly agree” that Britain is spending too much money on the Dome, and 21 per cent “agree a little”.

Recognition of the sponsors backing the celebrations is virtually non-existent, even though some have already embarked on their marketing programmes.
