BT hires chief for AT&T venture
BT has appointed a head of marketing for the team setting up its global joint venture with AT&T. Ayes Amedwudah moves to the role from his position as BT corporate client head of marketing.
The telecoms giant has set up a “transition team” to manage the BT/AT&T joint venture.
Amedwudah reports to Lewis Lyell, transition team leader global sales and service. He in turn reports to Neil Hobbs, who is managing the joint venture as BT implementation director.
Simon Kelly takes over Amedwudah’s role. Kelly was previously head of marketing for Global Energy.
BT and AT&T announced their joint venture last July. It combines the international assets and operations of each company, including multinational accounts and BT’s network services business Concert, which AT&T has agreed to market in the US.
BT chief executive Sir Peter Bonfield believes a link up between BT’s mobile phone company Cellnet and AT&T’s mobile division is possible.
The venture is subject to regulatory approval. The European Commission will rule this autumn.
BT head of cable TV services Patrick Boner is to head a team in the UK, where his remit is to assess how the joint venture can benefit BT’s operations within this country (MW January 28).
