Granada to strike MUTV overseas deal

Granada Media is close to launching its dedicated Manchester United pay-TV channel MUTV overseas.

Stuart Prebble, director of channels for Granada Media, indicated that the channel, which is a joint venture between BSkyB, Granada and Man Utd, could launch in an Asian or Middle-Eastern market before next season.

He says: “Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are obvious markets. It is a premium channel. We would sell it on its own merits, not as part of a package.”

Prebble says MUTV should have the rights to show Premiership matches – once they have been aired live on Sky Sports – by next season.

MUTV, which launched in September, broadcasts on Sky and cable from 6pm to midnight, seven days a week. It does not have access to Man Utd games but broadcasts old matches, lifestyle programmes and live and recorded action from reserve and youth team games.
