CIM in legal wrangle as chief leaves

Steve Cuthbert, the director-general of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, has left and is now involved in a legal wrangle over his exit.

In a statement to Marketing Week the CIM says: “There is a dispute as to the circumstances relating to this, which is being dealt with by lawyers acting on behalf of the CIM and Mr Cuthbert.”

Cuthbert, who took up his role at the CIM in July 1994, left the full-time post last month.

Sources suggest his departure follows differences with the CIM’s council, which comprises part-time officials elected each year by CIM members.

Council chairman John Edmund, who was previously senior vice-chairman, was elected chairman in December.

Cuthbert was unavailable for comment.
