The Market Research Society (MRS) has launched a new Website which includes details on the latest MRS courses, conferences and events. It offers details of MRS publications as well as advice and information on market research issues, such as selecting market research companies and starting a career in market research. The site (www.marketresearch.org.uk or www.mrs.org.uk) was designed and developed by new media consultancy NETTEC.
24/7 Media Europe, the online ad sales company, is to strengthen its operations in the Benelux countries. The plans include expanding its operating base in Brussels, establishing new regional headquarters in Amsterdam and significantly extending its staff of new media professionals to support locally represented Websites.
European retailers are underplaying the growth of US e-commerce businesses and viewing them as “an electronic, value-added form of mail order, historically suited to the US market”, according to a white paper issued by the Interactive Media in Retail Group (www. IMRG.org), the London-based e-commerce industry group. The paper, advocating a European-focused “Integrated E-retail” model for developing e-commerce, can be downloaded from the IMRG site.
Jamba (www.jamba. co.uk), the games-based Website from Carlton Online, has struck its first interstitial sponsorship deal with coffee brand Douwe Egberts. Douwe Egberts’ two-month sponsorship of Jam-ba’s Take a Letter game is the first example of an interstitial ad on the site.
Mednet Media (www.mednetmedia.com) is to target healthcare and biomedical companies planning promotional activity for their Websites. According to AndrÃ©e Bates, managing director of Mednet Media, the agency will fill a void in the online healthcare marketing sector by offering “targeted site marketing and promotion which is essential for anyone wishing to direct quality traffic to their site”.
Vignette, which develops traffic tracking and relationship management software for a range of major Websites, has opened a third European office in Paris. Rebekah Menezes, European marketing manager for Vignette Europe, comments: “Growth in the French market was hampered by the widespread use of Minitel in French households, but Internet business use in France is the third highest in Europe. By opening this office Vignette will be poised to benefit from growth in this young sector.”
Amazon.com and Dell Computer Corp, the leading online retailers, have struck a deal which will see each retailer promoted at the other’s virtual checkouts. The deal, expected to set a trend of similar e-commerce pacts, will see the retailer’s complementary products appear on the other’s site just as an online customer is about to make a purchase.
