In transit Web access available for UK flyers

WAM Interactive (UK) is to install a network of online touchscreen “stations”, to be known as WAMworlds, at BAA-owned airports in the UK.

Heathrow will have 50 units by June, followed by another 30 at Gatwick and Stansted.

Each WAMworld has public “attractor” video screens, with an LED message board below and a private touchscreen at waist height. The upper video screen runs a 20-minute advertising loop, while the LED displays information and encourages passengers to touch the screen to visit the advertisers’ sites and find information about the terminal. The system can offer online services such as news, weather and share prices, plus Net access and e-mail. It also has a printer and credit card reader for e-commerce transactions.

Two WAMworlds have been running in Heathrow’s terminal four for several months. The response has encouraged Avis to sign up as the only car rental advertiser. Through direct access to Avis’ Website users will be able to get information about Avis partnerships and promotions, or print out coupons for offers redeemable in the airport.
