Owen plays centre field for Walkers

England striker Michael Owen joins Gary Lineker in a national TV advertising campaign promoting Walkers “Cheese and Owen” flavour crisps.

The campaign, which breaks this week, was created by advertising agency Abbott Mead Vickers. BBDO and features soccer star Owen in a number of situations where crisp-snatcher Lineker attempts to take out his new arch-rival.

A falling grand piano, a demolition ball and a Walkers lorry swinging from a crane are perils Owen manages to side step.

The ad ends with a voiceover: “Walkers are proud to announce their new Cheese and Owen flavour… Sorry Gary.”

James Boulton, Walkers Crisps marketing director, comments: “AMV.BBDO continues to refresh and strengthen the campaign. We’re delighted to be combining the UK’s favourite crisp with its favourite footballer.”

The 40-second commercial was written by AMV creative director Peter Souter, with art direction by Mike Durban. Paul Weiland dir-ected for Paul Weiland Films.
