Crookes loses staff in Boots review

Crookes Healthcare has lost its two marketing directors as a result of parent company Boots Healthcare International restructuring its marketing department.

Crookes’ marketing directors for skincare, Nick Evans, and for healthcare, Amanda Jenkins, have left the company within a fortnight of each other.

The company produces over-the-counter medicines, including Nurofen, Optrex, Strepsils and E45 skincare.

Evans has joined United Biscuits as brand controller for savoury biscuits. His replacement, Neil Lawrence, was head of marketing for exports. Jenkins has moved to BHI to become head of marketing for analgesics.

She replaces Alan Ransome, who is to head a company-wide “process engineering” project looking at internal reorganisation, brand management and business strategy.

At Crookes, Jenkins has been replaced by Simon Merritt from BHI, who was marketing manager for Strepsils and head of a “change management” project.

A company spokesman says the project has been set up in response to the globalisation of the company:

“When the company was founded in 1993, 80 per cent of our people and sales were in the UK. Now 80 per cent are outside the UK.” BHI has reorganised its marketing departments, grouping the analgesic and throat-care teams together.

Skincare head of marketing Elizabeth Morgan has moved to become skincare category general manager. Her replacement has yet to be appointed.

Throat-care head of marketing Bernard Bremer now runs the market intelligence department. Marketing manager Matthew Jenkins will take his place.

Crookes is launching two new Nurofen products: Nurofen Muscular pain Relief Gel and Long-Lasting capsules.
