Sun bares plans for Page 3 site

The Sun is launching a site based on its trademark Page 3 to help drive subscriptions to its CurrantBun.com free Internet Service Provider (ISP) service. The move is certain to renew the debate about the promotion of topless images in the office.

The site, Page3.com, is scheduled to launch this week, and is expected to be heavily promoted in The Sun. Currantbun.com’s ad sales house Real Media is handling the advertising and sponsorship for the site, which is described as “a virtual version of Page 3”.

News International says it plans to populate the PC-equipped UK workplace with images of topless models. CurrantBun general manager Ellis Watson says images of Page Three models will now “be there in shimmering colour on your PC screen, rather than a yellowing cutting on the workshop wall”.

Real Media head of ad sales Sean Lee says there will be heavy demand to advertise on the site. He says it will attract agencies “which want to reach the high income male earners”.

The site will be available in “free space” to all Web users, unlike the rest of The Sun’s content, which is published online through CurrantBun.com. Although CurrantBun is available free, it is accessible only after registration.
