Work escapes leave a trail of beach sand

You are aged between 18 and 35. You work in marketing. You have to choose between your job and lounging on Bondai Beach. No contest?

Seventy-one per cent of young professionals in marketing and sales flee the UK for a career break – more than any other profession.

According to holiday company Austravel, 60 per cent of IT and telecommunications workers and 45 per cent of media – including advertising – professionals feel the call of the wild compared with only 17 per cent in banking and accountancy.

Austravel has even produced a new guide for “work escapers” which includes details about working abroad.

What can the marketing industry do to stop its young talent hotfooting it to more exotic climes?

Set up offices in Koh Samui or conduct extensive market research programmes in Goa, perhaps?
