Syzygy opens online PR and communications arm

New media agency Syzygy has set up an online corporate communications and PR division to help develop corporate brand raising and rapid rebuttal services for clients.

The division is led by Charlie Pownall, former journalist and European Commission speechwriter and press officer, who is expected to develop the division alongside agency colleagues working on an ad hoc basis.

Syzygy is hoping to bridge the gap between new media agencies, which tend to have a sales-driven approach, and PR agencies which, despite their corporate communications skills, are hampered by a lack of online expertise.

Pownell says: “Key stakeholders, notably institutional shareholders, now view the company Website as a 24-hour, wide-angle lens on the business’ management approach.”

The agency is already working with a number of clients, including Barclays Bank, and BP Amoco, on projects aimed at integrating online activity for investor relations, media relations and crisis management.
