Football’s world governing body Fifa has appointed two companies to sell the &£30m TV and sponsorship rights for the first World Club Championships.
The competition takes place in January and has led to controversy over Manchester United’s decision to compete instead of defending its title in the FA Cup.
Brazilian sports marketing company Traffic will market the &£25m TV rights for the January competition, which takes place in Brazil.
Traffic will set about selling rights to the competition to broadcasters around the world.
ISL will sell sponsorship for the competition. A source at ISL says: “We aim to get eight sponsors at about &£600,000 each. We will approach companies in the Fifa family first.”
The Fifa sponsorship family consists of long-standing sponsors such as Adidas, Fujifilm, Philips and JVC.
A sports marketing source from a competing sponsorship agency says: “If ISL manages to get eight sponsors at that price it deserves a medal.”
