Time appoints International president

Magazine giant Time Inc has promoted John Marcom, former president of Asia, to the new role of president of Time Inc International to head the company’s operations outside the US.

Marcom, who will be based in London, will direct the company’s international expansion and Internet activities, and oversee the launch of new titles from the Time portfolio onto the UK market. These could include celebrity-based titles In Style and People.

Last year, Time entered a joint venture with Burda in Germany to produce a German-language version of weekly In Style and is planning to bring five more titles to the European market over the next few years.

Norman Pearlstine, editor-in-chief of Time Inc and head of international operations, says: “Marcom is an experienced publishing executive and a talented leader, respected and admired by colleagues inside and outside the company.”

The move follows the departure of Richard Atkinson to Time Inc’s New York headquarters. Atkinson was promoted to chief financial officer and executive vice president (MW August 26).

Time Inc is the publishing arm of Time Warner, the world’s largest media conglomerate which includes brands such as CNN and Warner Brothers film studios.
