Marketing Forum pulls plug on sport
This year’s Marketing Forum, aboard cruise ship the Oriana, will probably go down as one of the most frustrating events ever for sports lovers, particularly supporters of Arsenal FC or the national Welsh rugby team.
Sports fans must have been reassured to see TV sets in their cabins, but as delegates settled down to watch the Barcelona versus Arsenal game on Wednesday night, someone switched off the signal centrally just before dinner.
This same person may also have pulled the plug on the Wales versus Argentina match – the opening game of the Rugby World Cup – no doubt concerned that delegates would miss their appointments.
The sight of Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey being switched off after belting out some opening numbers was clearly too much for one frustrated Taff. Prevented from seeing the historic Millennium Stadium match, he tried to bend a coathanger into the socket to get a signal.
Like everyone else, he drowned his sorrows at missing the game in the Crow’s Nest Bar. At least his countrymen had won.
