Norwich Union has axed Saatchi & Saatchi from its agency roster. It handled business totalling up to &£12.5m.

The insurance and financial services giant was unhappy about potential conflicts with Lloyds TSB, which is also handled by Saatchi.

The agency has been with Norwich Union since 1993 and, although it has done less work in recent months, it was still responsible for the company’s corporate brand-building strategy and its healthcare advertising. Saatchi’s latest “Part of the Union” TV campaign broke last week.

Norwich Union has drawn up a shortlist of four agencies, whose identities it declines to reveal, to pitch for the business. It hopes to appoint an agency before the end of the year.

Thomas Cowper Johnson, Norwich Union’s group brands manager, says: “We have found a growing potential for conflict between Saatchi’s Lloyds TSB account and its work for us. So we have come to a mutual agreement to part.”
