DaimlerChrysler names Toyota boss for jeep arm

DaimlerChrysler has drafted in a senior director from Toyota to head Chrysler Jeep in the UK.

Simon Elliott will become director of Chrysler Jeep at the start of next year. He is presently sales director at Toyota Lexus in Belgium.

Elliott will report to the new managing director of DaimlerChrysler, Joe Eberhardt, a former marketer who moves across from the US.

Before joining Toyota GB as a sales manager, Elliott held sales and marketing positions at Volkswagen in the UK.

He will join at a crucial time for DaimlerChrysler, as it takes responsibility for importing and distributing Chrysler and Jeep vehicles from Inchape. Inchape, which distributes Daihatsu in the UK, has held the &£4.6m contract for the past seven years.

Elliott will be responsible for a &£15m ad spend. He will replace managing director Richard Mackay, who has opted to remain with Inchape as senior executive responsible for the company’s development.

Chrysler marketing director Stephen Grey will report to Elliott.

DaimlerChrysler is a newly formed company representing the Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler and Jeep brands in the UK.
