Museum hires top London Zoo marketer

The Natural History Museum has poached London Zoo’s head of marketing and press relations to fill the role of marketing chief.

Sharon Ament will join the museum in January as head of development and marketing. She will oversee fundraising, sponsorship and marketing for the museum, and a department of 28 people.

Ament takes over the position vacated by Tanya Burman, who left last month to have a baby.

Ament says: “The Natural History Museum is like hidden treasure. I want to make the British public aware of the value of the museum and open it up to different cultural and socio-economic groups.”

She plans to give greater prominence to the museum’s conservation and scientific work.

Ament has been head of marketing at London Zoo for seven years. She previously worked as national marketing manager for the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.

Court Burkitt has held the museum’s advertising account for two years.
