The Department of Health is on the verge of appointing D’Arcy to its &£5m nurse recruitment campaign, following a review of the business.

The agency is understood to have beaten Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO to the account in a final contest.

Saatchi & Saatchi has held the business for more than four years, after acquiring the account when it took over Laing Henry.

The agency did repitch, but it was eliminated at an earlier stage.

The statutory review came as a major blow to Saatchi, which has won several advertising awards for its work.

The agency scooped a silver lion at this year’s Cannes International Advertising Festival for the TV commercial “Face”. The ad, which was devised, written, filmed, and on air in less than a week, featured an immobile accident victim who was unable to talk.

The account is being handled by the Central Office of Information. No one at the COI was able to confirm the agency appointment, but it is understood that the decision has been made to hand the business to D’Arcy.

No one was available for comment at D’Arcy or AMV as Marketing Week went to press.
