Woolwich to test pub cash machines

The Woolwich bank is putting cash machines into ten JD Wetherspoon pubs in London as a trial project.

The Woolwich-branded cash machines connected to the Link network are being installed in ten pubs in the City and the West End of London as part of the pilot.

Customers from any bank will be able to use the machines and will be charged &£1 for the facility. The charge also applies to Woolwich customers.

Notification of the &£1 charge will appear on the cashpoint screen and customers will have to make a positive selection before continuing to use the machine to withdraw cash.

A Woolwich spokeswoman says: “Customers can already pay with a card in pubs, so this is an extra facility. People are more accustomed to finding cash machines in different places. We have them in quite a few village shops and Spar shops in areas where there are not many bank machines nearby.”
