Woolworths is searching for a marketer to lead its Internet push.

An Internet manager will be appointed to manage the operation and expansion of the Woolworths e-commerce site, which launches on December 1.

An Internet expert, with experience of running a transactional Website, is expected to take the role. But Woolworths is also keen that the appointee is an experienced consumer marketer.

Whoever takes up the position, which will include responsibility for the appointment of an Internet management team and marketing for the site, will report directly to head of complementary channels Jill Arch, who also oversees Woolworths’ presence on digital TV shopping channel Open, and its catalogue shopping operation.

It is not known if the job will involve the appointment of marketing services agencies from outside the main account. Woolworths uses Bates UK with media by Zenith Media for its £21.5m a year stores account.

The company announced it is to initially offer 350 product lines on the site. A bigger range and in-store Internet cafés are in the pipeline for next year.
