Teenage kicks on Millennium Eve

More than 60 per cent of the country’s 16- to 21-year-olds expect to have sex at a Millennium Eve party, according to those shagadelic marketers at Durex manufacturers London International Group.

A third of the young revellers expect to get jiggy with someone new, according to the saucy survey.

How things have changed since the Diary was a teenager. New Year’s Eve rarely ended with more than a snog at midnight after a Party Seven, shared between 14 people. Yet today young Britons claim to have sex on average 133 times a year – and who knows how many do it with the light on.

This is the myth of the long-lost Golden Age in reverse. Today’s youngsters enjoy video games we children of the Seventies could only dream about, and discotheques stay open after 11pm. All this and 133 shags a year. They’ve got it all.
