BT exchanges discounts for flat-rate deals

BT is to axe its discount schemes, except for Friends & Family, in favour of flat-rate monthly packages, and will roll out new versions of its BT Together package.

BT marketing director Angus Porter says Premier Call, Call & Save and Daytime Caller will be among the first discount schemes to be scrapped to cut customer confusion about call prices.

Porter says: “We are trying to put together relatively simple packages and gradually phase out discount schemes.”

He says BT will extend the type of monthly package it launched in November, BT Together, which costs &£35.97 a quarter, including line rental, to small businesses and home workers in the new year. BT Together has been criticised by industry experts, who believe the scheme masks complex pricing structures.

Last week the company launched BT Surftime, monthly flat-rate Internet call packages offering unmetered access (MW December 9 ).
