The Telegraph appoints head of marketing

The Telegraph Group has appointed Mark Dixon as marketing director to replace Hugo Drayton, who was promoted to managing director of Hollinger Telegraph New Media.

Dixon has been sports promotions manager at the Telegraph for the past 18 months and introduced a series of new initiatives to the paper’s Premier League game. Previously he was marketing and promotions manager at the independent newspaper The West Australian in Perth.

He says: “I look forward to being part of the marketing process of such a strong and established brand, and building the Telegraph’s readership as we enter a period of great change in the publishing industry.”

Dixon takes up his new position on February 1, at the same time as Helen Kenington takes over as sports promotions and events manager from her current job as sports events manager. In addition, Anne Gowan, head of direct marketing, becomes direct marketing director with immediate effect.

In November 1999 Telegraph Group established Hollinger Telegraph New Media and appointed Hugo Drayton to head the new company. The company was formed to develop new online and e-commerce opportunities.

The Group launched the Electronic Telegraph five years ago and recently launch handbag.com as a joint venture with Boots.
