First Telecom appoints head of UK marketing

First Telecom, the discount phone and Internet telecoms company, has appointed a new UK marketing chief and is seeking advertising agencies for a number of projects.

Amanda Doran has been appointed as UK marketing manager – the most senior marketing job in the UK. She reports to managing director Ray Sangster.

Doran joins from telecoms company Interglobe and replaces Tim Hallac, who has become marketing director of online small business directory altodigital.com.

Doran’s appointment comes after Gabriella Goddard was hired as European marketing manager in November to take over from Alison Mitchell.

Goddard, who reports to president and chief executive Mac Allman, has chosen not to appoint an agency to handle a &£5m pan-European branding push. However, a company spokeswoman says: “We are looking for innovative agencies to do project work.”

She says the move will not affect the agencies First Telecom uses at its operating divisions in the UK, France and Germany: Walsh Trott Chick Smith, Louis XIV and Schitto Schmodde Waak.

Mediacom TMB handles the media planning and buying account.

First Telecom, which offers national and international discount calls, was forced to abandon an ad campaign in December after rival BT objected to the catchline www.BT.con.
