Liam Kane joins Dome departure list

Liam Kane, managing director and second-in-command at the New Millennium Experience Company (NMEC), is to step down in April – one month after his contract ends.

His departure completes the exit of the three top directors who helped launch the attraction. Last week, operations director Ken Robinson resigned (MW last week) following the sacking of chief executive Jennie Page, who was replaced by former Disneyland Paris executive Pierre-Yves Gerbeau.

Last weekend was the most successful to date for the Dome, with an average of over 20,000 visitors a day.

Kane joined the NMEC in April 1998 on a reported salary of &£150,000. An NMEC spokesman says he will stay until April to assist in the handover of power to Gerbeau. “His role is front-ended; it relates to the business-end of the organisation. We will still have finance director Neil Spence until June 2001.”

The spokesman says Kane was always due to leave at the end of his contract but wanted to stay on to help Gerbeau. However, Marketing Week can find no record of statements from the NMEC giving a departure date for Kane. Indeed, since Page’s departure, the Dome has dismissed suggestions Kane would leave.

Before joining the NMEC, Kane was managing director of Mirror Group Scotland newspapers.
