A setback for gorilla marketing
King Kong never had anything on these guys. RBI, an inflatables company which hires out blow up models for promotions recently had a spot of bother with gorilla marketing.
Their client, motor group Vardy, booked a 20-ft high gorilla as an advertising display for one of their promotional weekends.
Unfortunately the monster inflatable was lost in transit and never seen again. But Richard Bacon of RBI had problems explaining the mystery to his insurance company. He says: “I couldn’t understand why my insurer was so sceptical. Then came the silly question – ‘How do you lose a 20-ft high gorilla?’
“It would be nice to imagine giant inflatable gorillas, pigs and other assorted characters travelling down the motorway on the back of a truck in all their inflated glory. But actually, we pack them into boxes – the gorilla’s is about 4ft by 2ft – and inflate them when they arrive.”
The claim was finally accepted, but if anyone has seen a giant inflatable gorilla in the Northampton area – you’ve probably been drinking too much.
