Public support for energy rises

Your Leader “Can green card turn up trumps?” (MW April 20) overlooks the most environmentally effective “green” electricity programme on the market.

RSPB Energy, introduced last November by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Scottish and Southern Energy, is the first premium-free “green” electricity product. In only four months, it has boosted the renewable electricity market by 20 per cent.

Genuine products such as this are an important step towards providing a solution to the damaging effects of climate change, caused mainly by the burning of fossil fuels.

RSPB market research shows that, far from becoming more sceptical, the public is becoming more willing to support renewable energy products.
