EasyGroup seeks marketing chief for European car rental arm launch

EasyRentacar, the new car-rental service from EasyGroup, is seeking a marketing director to roll the brand out across Europe.

The new recruit will report to EasyRentacar chief executive Andrew Fitzmaurice and will be responsible for a multi-million pound advertising budget.

All advertising will be created in-house, as it is for sister companies EasyJet, the low-cost airline, and EasyEverything, the Internet café chain.

EasyRentacar launched last month as a low-cost alternative to companies such as Avis and Hertz.

It plans to offer a pan-European service and has initially launched fleets of A-Class Mercedes in London, Glasgow and Barcelona. It will then roll out to other cities served by EasyJet, including Amsterdam, Geneva, Malaga and Nice.

Meanwhile, EasyJet has poached the Thomson Travel Group e-commerce director Mike Cooper to be its commercial director, in the run-up to its flotation later this year (MW April 20).

Cooper took up the position on May 8 and reports to EasyJet managing director Ray Webster. He is taking day-to-day responsibility for sales and marketing across Europe.
