Chivas shows archaic script in modern ark
This week’s most surreal experience has to be a performance of the famous balcony scene from the play Private Lives – on the fifth floor of Seagram’s space-age office block, the Ark.
In an attempt to raise the tone of the usual corporate booze-up, this time for the relaunch of Chivas Regal, Seagram drafted in the prestigious Globe Theatre Company.
Despite the Ark’s cavernous and – more than likely – post-modern interior, the Noel Coward piece, and an extract from Patrick Marber’s West End hit Closer, went down a storm.
“They were very good weren’t they?” One well-refreshed hack was heard slurring afterwards. “Do you think they wrote their own script?”
