WSJ.com appoints first Euro chief

WSJ.com, the Wall Street Journal’s online subscription site, has appointed Karen Gallagher as its first marketing and circulation director for Europe.

Publisher Dow Jones has handed the $1m (&£625,000) pan-European on- and offline creative account to Ogilvy & Mather, while media is being handled by MindShare.

The agencies handle the accounts for the Wall Street Journal Europe newspaper.

Gallagher has been at Dow Jones for three years. Her most recent role was telemarketing manager of The Wall Street Journal Europe.

Gallagher, who is based in Brussels, will oversee on- and offline marketing for the global business news provider in the UK and Europe. She will report to executive director of WSJ.com International, Lisa Frankenberg.

Waikay Lau has been appointed WSJ.com marketing and circulation director for the Asia Pacific region.

Lau has been with Dow Jones for four years, most recently as regional circulation manager for Greater China at The Asian Wall Street Journal.

WSJ.com claims to be the world’s largest paid subscription website, with almost 450,000 subscribers.

Frankenberg says: “Europe and Asia Pacific have been identified as two key growth markets for WSJ.com.

“Gallagher and Lau will develop and implement marketing strategies for WSJ.com aimed at increasing product awareness and paid circulation in their regions.”
