Doner tipped to win £3m Young’s task

Seafood group Young’s Bluecrest is believed to have appointed Doner Cardwell Hawkins to its &£3m advertising account.

Young’s called a review after Grey Advertising resigned the account earlier this year. Grey was appointed to the &£10m pan-European account of rivals Findus in March, and dropped Young’s because of the potential conflict.

Young’s marketing director Andrew Lamb refuses to confirm whether Doner Cardwell has been appointed, but confirms pitches have taken place.

The shortlist for the account is also believed to have included Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters, Miles Calcraft Brigginshaw Duffy and one other agency.

Grimsby-based Young’s has two major frozen food ranges, Chip Shop and Seafood Ready Meals.

Young’s Bluecrest was formed in July 1999 after a merger between Young’s frozen seafood business, owned by United Biscuits (UB), and Bluecrest, which Legal & General bought from food distributor Booker in 1998.

UB – which was recently taken over by European consortium Finalrealm – and Legal & General each own 44 per cent of the company, with the rest held by management and banks.
