Future to publish title for new PlayStation 2

Future Publishing, publishers of Official PlayStation, is to launch an unofficial magazine for the new console PlayStation 2, called PSM2.

It is also developing a magazine to cover Microsoft’s gaming console Xbox, which will enter the gaming market in 2001.

PSM2 is due to launch on September 1, priced at &£2.99. It will be perfect bound and have a pagination of 148. An advertising campaign through McCann-Erickson Bristol will support the launch and use national press and other Future Publishing titles.

Future Publishing group publishing director of computer games Robert Price says: “It will be an independent voice. We look to dominate any market that appears in video games, whatever the format or the channel.”

Future is also waiting to hear the outcome of its pitch for the contract to publish an official magazine for Sony’s PlayStation 2.

It already publishes an unofficial magazine for the PlayStation console called Power, which had a circulation of 81,079 under its previous name of PlayStation Power.

Official PlayStation magazine is covering news on the forthcoming UK launch of PlayStation 2 in September. Official PlayStation has a circulation of 351,775, according to the latest set of figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, down 7.5 per cent for the same period year on year.
