Holsten picks Pils chief for director role

Andy Edge, marketing controller for Holsten Pils, has been named as Holsten UK marketing director following the shock departure earlier this year of Phil Plowman.

Plowman quit the company in March, a week after calling its first ad review in 20 years, leaving Edge to handle the protracted pitch process.

Incumbent TBWA GGT Simons Palmer is still believed to be in the running for the £6m account, despite competition from WCRS and Leagas Delaney. A result is expected this week.

WCRS was last month dropped from Bass’s Carling account after 17 years following a secret pitch for the Holsten account.

Edge became Holsten Pils marketing manager in 1997, joining the company from St Ivel Gold, where he was senior brand manager.

He is expected to launch a creative review of the Holsten Pure 6 and Holsten Export brands, also handled by TBWA.

Plowman left Holsten after six years to head global marketing for Pilsner Urquell International. The Czech brand was bought last year by South African Breweries as a global rival to Budweiser and Heineken.
