Duckworth to handle $40m Daewoo push

Duckworth Finn Grubb Walters has been appointed by Korean car company Daewoo to handle the $40m (&£26m) European launch of its new model Tacuma.

Duckworth Finn is already Daewoo’s lead agency across Europe, but was asked to pitch separately against Daewoo’s local Spanish and French agencies.

The car, which is a space wagon, and will be the seventh in Daewoo’s range, will go on sale in the UK in October.

Duckworth Finn was appointed as Daewoo’s lead agency last year, after pitching against several European agencies, including Boebel Adams BBDO in Germany.

Daewoo Motor Company is up for sale, and several car makers placed bids yesterday. These include General Motors, Ford and a joint bid from Hyundai and Daimler Chrysler.

Daewoo rose to fame in the UK in the mid-Nineties when it launched itself as a customer-focused car company. Its sales outlets are owned directly by Daewoo, rather than dealership franchises, which the manufacturer says gives it more control over customer service.

Duckworth Finn and CIA Medianetwork have had the creative and media business since its launch in 1995.
