MW backs ETC marketing award for a second year

For the second year running, Marketing Week has teamed up with the English Tourism Council (ETC, formerly the English Tourist Board) to back an award showcasing marketing achievement in the UK tourist industry.

The Marketing in Tourism Award forms part of the ETC’s long-established and respected annual England for Excellence awards, which recognises excellence, quality and outstanding achievement in English tourism.

Last year, the award was won by Leeds City Council, which increased weekend business in the city by developing “clubbing breaks” targeted at the under-35s. Its entry showed how, through identifying a market segment and understanding its needs, it was possible to put together a package that appealed to this market and boosted weekend business in Leeds.

England Tourism Council director of communications Robyn Griffith-Jones says: “The winner of the award will demonstrate the greatest innovation, effectiveness, market understanding and achievement in launching a product or destination, or repositioning an existing one.”

The closing date for nominations is August 18. Finalists will be announced in October and the winner will be named at the 2000 England for Excellence Awards Ceremony on November 1 at the Savoy Hotel in London.
