Vauxhall is launching a &£7m ad campaign for its new Astra Coupé and the VX220 two-seater roadster, as part of the series starring Griff Rhys-Jones, through Lowe Lintas & Partners. The Coupé ad features the comedian dressed as a ‘mum’, joined in the car by his scientist colleagues dressed as his husband and children. He becomes increasingly annoyed at the car’s good performance and snaps at the ‘children’ for praising its handling: ‘Quiet in the back. Don’t cheek your mother.’

The VX200 ad ‘Dream Car’ launches in August, and features Rhys-Jones trying to discredit the ‘sexiness’ of the model. Both ads will run on TV and in the press. Media is through Western International.
