Horizon hires biscuits head of marketing

Horizon Biscuits has appointed Tony Camp as its new UK marketing controller, following the departure of Andy Valentine.

It is not known whether Valentine has another job to go to after he suddenly quit the Liverpool-based company.

Camp was previously an international director of Horizon Biscuits, based in Europe. He will report to managing director John Nichols.

Camp was unavailable for comment as Marketing Week went to press.

Horizon manufactures chocolate products on licence, including Cadbury’s Fingers and Jestives. It also makes Maryland Cookies.

Horizon is one of two divisions under the Premier Brands company banner.

US venture capitalist Hicks Muse Tate Furst merged Horizon and Premier Beverages – maker of Typhoo Tea – to form Premier Brands after it bought Hillsdown Holdings last summer.

Hillsdown also consists of HL Foods, marmalade-maker Chivers Hartley, Buxted Chicken, Kingsland Wine and furniture-maker Christie Tyler.

Horizon was poised for a takeover earlier this year as part of US consortium Burlington’s bid to acquire United Biscuits (UB).

Burlington’s partners included Nabisco and Hicks Muse. But after Hicks Muse pulled out, Nabisco joined forces with European consortium Finalrealm, which made a successful bid for UB.
