Newcastle-based ad agency Robson Brown is getting in on the political act after two of its creatives were poached by Geordieland rivals Yellow M to work on the Conservative Party account.
Copywriter Mick McCabe and art director Simon Storey have been lured 500 yards down the road to Yellow M, which, Diary readers may remember, was tipped by William Hague as the next Saatchi & Saatchi when it was appointed to the general election task earlier this year.
Evidently miffed at losing two key staff members – but not one to miss out on a publicity stunt – Duncan McEwan, Robson Brown’s shy and retiring creative director, is advertising for New Labour (geddit?).
To underline the point, he was last seen hollering through a cardboard megaphone, with a red Vote McEwan rosette.
“We just hope we employ a new team with a natural aversion to Tories,” says McEwan.
The Diary thinks he may have missed his vocation.
