Mags try to outshine one another

The Diary has it on good authority that brunette bobs and silver are “in” for the autumn/winter season.

Visitors to WH Smith at Victoria Station are being called upon to spot the difference between two women’s glossy magazines, competing for space by taking up whole rows on the newsstands.

On the top, with three rows, was Eve, BBC Worldwide’s new women’s magazine, whose launch issue features a model with smooth dark hair on the cover’s silvery grey background.

Underneath, filling out two rows, is rival IPC Media’s Marie Claire. It has Christy Turlington sporting a brown bob on a foil-blocked shiny silver cover for its same September issue, which offers readers a Platinum Discount Card. Coincidence, or is silver the new black?
