40 years of rock secrets exposed

Pop pickers at the Diary are pleased to see the launch of website Thisdayinmusic.com, which is dedicated to 40 years of rock trivia.

The “on this day” archive uncovers long-forgotten, if totally useless, information – such as The Clash drummer Topper Headon’s arrest for stealing a bus stop, and Mick Jagger’s admission in 1969 that he didn’t like singing. Pity Des O’Connor didn’t make the same announcement.

Thisdayinmusic.com can tell users what was number one in the charts on the day they were born, the low-down on the industry’s drug busts and where bands got their names from. Just don’t mention the Pet Shop Boys.

But the Diary is still unable to confirm rumours that one of David Bowie’s eyes changed colour when he was punched during a fight as a youngster.
