EMAP to launch new-look Smash Hits brand on television and radio

EMAP Performance is to extend its Smash Hits magazine brand to radio and TV, while simultaneously launching a new look for the music title.

The Smash Hits radio show hosted by Key 103’s Darren Proctor will be broadcast across EMAP’s Big City Network for two hours each Sunday from September 24. In addition, the show will run locally on Big City stations each weekday between 7pm and 10pm.

There will also be daily access to Smash Hits on Television through a three-hour programme called Smash Hits You Control from 4pm to 7pm on the EMAP-owned The Box.

Sky One will also carry an hour-long TV show, which incorporates Smash Hit values and launches on Saturday September 23. The programme, which takes an entertainment style format and comprises three band performances, will continue on Sunday afternoons from October 1.

The magazine will also sport a new look from October 4. A new Smash Hits logo has been designed to reflect the fact that the brand is now available on a number of different platforms.

EMAP Performance chief executive Tim Schoonmaker says: “Pop people want their media choices to be truly three dimensional, so we will turn Smash Hits into a super brand that they can see, hear and interact with.”

EMAP has already put its Kiss radio brand onto TV. It plans

to extend its rock magazine brand Q by launching QTV on Sky Digital in the autumn and Q digital radio.
