Avon Products, the cosmetics company, is launching a glossy lifestyle magazine called “A”. It is expected to roll out in the UK this month.
Avon, which sells products door-to-door, will also start selling make-up through retailers in the US.
A spokeswoman says: “At the moment there are no plans for a similar move in the UK.”
The magazine will initially be sold through the 160,000 “Avon ladies” in the UK, who will distribute it along with Avon catalogues.
It is understood that some sales representatives have received copies of the new magazine, which offers readers celebrity news and other lifestyle stories.
The Avon spokeswoman declined to reveal the cover price and would not confirm whether the magazine will be sold on newsstands.
The launch will be backed by a marketing campaign which will include press ads.
The spokeswoman says: “The magazine is a very big launch for us, and it will be sold as one of the Avon products”.
Avon is also extending its skin-care range, Anew, in October, with the launch of a new anti-wrinkle cream called RetroActive.
