ETC announces shortlist for Marketing Tourism award

The English Tourism Council (ETC) has revealed the shortlist for the Marketing in Tourism award, sponsored by Marketing Week for the second year running.

The marketing award is one of 16 presented by the ETC annually at the England for Excellence Awards on November 1.

A football weekend, a bed & breakfast, and a rhubarb trail have made it onto the marketing award shortlist:

  • The Derby Rams Football Weekend, was created by the local authority tourism unit and football club to promote a longer stay in the region.
  • Helm, a bed & breakfast in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, invested in developing and marketing a dedicated website with online booking, sound effects and a visitor book.
  • Wakefield District Council used a traditional local industry – rhubarb growing – as a new visitor experience by creating the Wakefield Rhubarb Trail.
  • The annual awards are run by the ETC in partnership with England’s ten regional tourist boards. Its aim is to act as a showcase for best practice and help raise quality standards in the tourism industry.

ETC chief executive Mary Lynch says: “Those shortlisted fulfilled their objectives and achieved a phenomenal return on investment. What more could anyone ask for in a well-executed marketing initiative?”
