Clickmusic to launch magazine with Virgin

Clickmusic.co.uk, the Internet search engine for music, is to launch a consumer magazine in a deal with Virgin Megastores.

The debut issue of the quarterly title, Clickmusic – a Pocket Guide to Music Online, will be distributed through Virgin in the first week of November. Half a million copies of the magazine will be printed and bagged up with purchases at point of sale in the music store.

Clickmusic marketing manager Lisa Wood says the publication will be published as a quarterly at first but may become a monthly title if successful. It will be sent out to subscribers free of charge.

Wood says: “We will wait and see how the first offline representation of Clickmusic goes. It is too early to say if the magazine will go onto the newsstand. We want to establish ourselves not as a destination site but as an authoritative guide to the Web.”

The initiative coincides with the relaunch of Clickmusic.co.uk’s website. It will be split into six channels – bands, downloads, games, news, live and the shop. The magazine will be split into the same sections as the website.

Wood is due to appoint a London-based design agency and its associated media agency to carry out the site’s advertising work. Print and outdoor advertising campaigns are not expected to run until next year.
