The Polish Government has said it wants to lift all limits on foreign ownership of local media outlets, which currently block non-domestic firms from owning more than a 33 per cent stake in the country’s radio and television stations. A proposed amendment to the media law, which will now go to parliament, will bring Polish regulations in line with European Union statutes. The elimination of curbs on media ownership is expected to have a profound effect on Poland’s booming television market, where advertising revenues are forecast to top more than $1bn) this year. At present only pan-European media group SBS Broadcasting has a foothold in the Polish terrestrial TV market, with a 33 per cent stake in the country’s second biggest private station TVN.
