Cadbury time – a joke that’s cutting it fine
Far be it for the Diary to berate companies for trying to pull the wool over journalists’ eyes, but do PR departments think we were all born yesterday?
One unsuspecting hack, trying to follow up a story about Cadbury Trebor Bassett recently, was caught out by an archaic company practice.
Up against deadline and ringing the confectionery giant’s media line for information, the desperate hack was told that the recorded service “closes at 5.06pm”. A stitch-up in time? Not according to media relations manager Tony Bilsborough.
He explains: “It’s an old Cadbury tradition that if secretaries work an extra six minutes a day, it gives them an extra half-day off every month.” So now we know.
