The car accelerates from a standing start to 60mph in just 4.7 seconds and, “where conditions allow”, to a maximum speed of 155mph. (Just what these “conditions” might be remain a mystery.) The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions may be concerned, given its campaign to slow down “boy racers” and “stop” companies promoting the speed of their vehicles.

Could Audi’s gift to Jay Kay be, in the words of one of his own songs, “virtual insanity”?

The star was briefly banned from driving two years’ ago for bombing down a motorway at 111mph. But that was in his favourite car – a Ferrari, of which he has a collection of 12.

To paraphrase that other great British singer Max Bygraves, brand loyalty “ain’t what it used to be”.
