Dixons unveils e-commerce service

Dixons Stores Group launches multimedia e-tailing service which will cater for all chains

Dixons Stores Group has completed a major e-commerce project which includes new websites for Currys (www.currys.co.uk) and The Link (www.thelink.co.uk).

The sites were developed in conjunction with e-business solutions provider BroadVision and Infogain.

The project delivers a multi-brand (Dixons, Currys, PC World, The Link) and multi-channel (Web, telesales, interactive TV, kiosk) solution. It allows customers to choose the most convenient way of finding and purchasing products. As well as the new websites, there is also a telesales operation, an order management system, stock and warehouse management systems and full tracking of deliveries, delivered by Dixons Group and a range of other partners.

BroadVision Retail Commerce and BroadVision Publishing Centre are the core applications for the websites. Infogain developed the multi-channel and multi-chain e-commerce stream. The first two sites – Currys and The Link – have been launched. New sites for Dixons and PC World will follow, as well as other brands.

Dixons Group director of direct business Stuart Carson says: “As a UK-based group specialising in the sale of hi-tech electronics and communications products through Dixons, Currys, PC World, The Link and Mastercare, it is important our e-commerce presence continues to develop.

“The BroadVision solution delivered with Infogain is one of the most innovative we have ever seen.”

He says BroadVision has supplied a reliable technology system that is “scaleable, robust and reusable”.

The BroadVision and Infogain collaboration also speeds up and simplifies the process of editing content in real time; domain owners of each store type are able to publish content on the Web directly, without involving specialist IT staff.

BroadVision managing director Ian Turner says Dixons’ decision to use his company’s product “further validates” the BroadVision One-To-One Retail Commerce Suite.
